Much like Kristyn has mentioned before in a previous post, music often offers a very validating and therapeutic experience for me. The music I choose to listen to in a particular moment typically reflects the mood I am in.
Sometimes the mood is exciting and energetic (often paired with a crazy dance party with my best friends). Other times the mood is tired and I am in need of something mellow and calming. There are times when I am feeling reverent about God’s blessings in my life and want to meditate on that. And then there are those times when I am feeling sad, heartbroken, and just plain down. Each of these moods pulls me to different beats and rhythms.
For those times when my heart is heavy and I need to honor the feeling by sitting in it and feeling through it, I often gravitate towards a song my Anais Mitchell called “Coming Down.” The simplicity and nostalgic tone of the video entrances my focus. The lyrics speak to my yearnings to keep tight of the high moments in life but also remembering that not every moment in life can feel so high and wonderful.

3 Thoughts About The Pull of the Beats and the Rhythms
This song has the indescribable ability to focus me immediately. It can put me in a meditative trance, after which I feel completely different from when the song began. Thank you for sharing.
It does the same thing to me. The feeling kind of reminds me of something I observed at the park the other day. I saw a line of little kids (young enough to have just learned how to walk) trailing down the park side walk with their teachers. It was kind of a funny sight because these kids’ wrists were all tied to a long rope (I’m guessing to keep the little kiddos from running away). Some of them were just looking around at the trees, bugs, and other surroundings and then there were those couple of kids in the back that were whining and crying (obviously not wanting to be there). The group of kids as a whole just had this continuous noise streaming from them. Then, all of a sudden, this man walked by with the cutest little fluff ball of a puppy. He stopped because he noticed all the kids fixated on the pup. And what did I notice? All of that constant kid noises just went right away. Gone. These kids were completely entranced by this puppy and were so focused (even the whiney kids). I was amazed! It’s funny and interesting what kinds of things can so immediately bring us into focus.
