Compassion in a Video Game? Sweet!

Some of our previous posts have talked about the importance of compassion. Well this week, I found a fun way to focus on expressing compassion for yourself. Self compassion includes being gentle with yourself, being able to forgive your mistakes, and being empathetic to your experiences.   This type of compassion includes resilience, which is the ability to stay optimistic and motivated in the face of challenges.

How can you build resilience? Enter Superbetter!

This game was created by not only game creators but also the professionals who understand resilience.  The game allows you to set a goal while creating quests to help you achieve that goal while building physical, emotional, mental, an social stamina. My favorite part is when it asks you to “Specify your epic win”,  where you can say why you want to achieve the goal. The game is available for free online and through the iPhone App Store.  (…if only there was an Android version.)

Take a look. Building resilience and using self compassion does not have to be serious. Have some fun accepting quests and battling the bad guys.  And feel productive while doing it!
