You must understand the whole of life, not just one little part of it. That is why you must read, that is why you must look at the skies, that is why you must sing and dance and write poems and suffer and understand, for all of that is life. – J. Krishnamurti
I chose this quote to share today because it poetically emphasizes the circular nature of life as well as the importance of the big picture. I believe that our actions, thoughts, beliefs, and stories are repetitive in nature in that the underlying attempt is to grasp the meaning of life and our place in it.
We read, we learn, and build relationships in order to build on our story and gain understanding. People, the books we read, and where we live may change but we live out the same experiences under a guise of change. We do this until we understand, or because there is no other way to live.
It can be easy to get caught up in focusing on only one part of your life and magnify it so that’s all you see. Like zooming in too closely on a picture, it makes things too blurry to see. Step back and look at the patterns. What does it mean to you? What questions are you trying to answer?
See how each experience is equally important to understanding the whole of life.
