\"\"<\/a>I was enjoying an evening with someone very special to me the other night. I was content in the moment, just being with him.<\/p>\n

The feeling of allowing someone in, of being<\/em>\u00a0with someone, is what being human is all about. I am trying to think of how best to describe this feeling to you. In that moment, the only thing that I was aware of was his physical and emotional presence. I was not thinking of anything or anyone else. Time did not matter. It was one of the most comfortable moments that I can remember having in quite some time. I felt calm and safe.<\/p>\n

I have been looking back to that moment all week. What it has made me think about (and why I am choosing to share this story with you) is the importance of sharing life with others. In my first post, I talked about the importance of sharing grief. The moment that I shared with this person made me think about the importance of sharing all<\/em>\u00a0of life. The good and the bad. As a relational therapist, I can tell you that we are social beings…not meant to live in isolation.<\/p>\n

At the end of the day, there is nothing more comforting than knowing that we have someone to call or go home to, to share life with\/to be<\/em>\u00a0with (even if it involves simply sitting next to them and falling asleep on their shoulder). I do not want to ignore the fact that, sometimes, we are alone. There is a unique advantage to being alone, one that I hope to discuss in a future post. I am going to challenge myself to share more of myself with others and challenge you to do so too…relationship with others is, after all, unlike anything else.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
