A while ago, though, it became less about receiving (at this point in my life, if I need something, I’ll just go buy it–I don’t have the self-discipline to wait for a holiday) and much more about giving. But it’s just not giving anything–it is giving with purpose and meaning. I believe a lot of thought should go into a gift and it’s just not my indecisiveness, it is considering the person that I am buying for, what they might like, what they could use, and then matching that with a gift as best as I can. Believe me, this makes buying the gift and watching the person open it and use it all the more enjoyable.

It’s also a good way to avoid this:

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PQT-T75WwE]

I hope that we all have received gifts from others that have put a lot of thought into it. I’ve long believed that a gift from the heart is greater than a gift from the wallet. That doesn’t necessarily mean that gifts from the heart are cheap or inexpensive. It just means that when we give in this way, we give a little part of ourselves to the other person, and that is one of the greatest gifts we can give.

Image by sh0dan

“My greatest skill in life has been to want but little.”–Thoreau “It’s not getting what you want, it’s wanting what you’ve got.”-Cheryl Crow Like most everyone else, I love the holiday season.
