{"id":1696,"date":"2012-08-21T07:11:36","date_gmt":"2012-08-21T12:11:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/collectiveinquiry.com\/?p=1696"},"modified":"2012-08-21T07:16:39","modified_gmt":"2012-08-21T12:16:39","slug":"fish-love-and-real-love","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/collectiveinquiry.com\/?p=1696","title":{"rendered":"Fish Love and Real Love"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I recently came across this video on the blog of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.onbeing.org\/\">On Being<\/a>, a public radio program that focuses on the big questions of life, often intersecting science, religion, and the human spirit. \u00a0This video is by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.onbeing.org\/blog\/animated-shorts-lessons-forgiveness-and-repentance-high-holy-days\/2530\">Hanan Harchol<\/a>, an artist who creates animated videos focusing on Jewish traditions.<\/p>\n<p>Here, he asks the common question, &#8220;What does giving have to do with love?&#8221; The conversation takes place in the car with his parents (And he actually imitates the voices of his own parents here.) The video raises the idea that people are too focused on what they can get out of a relationship.<\/p>\n<p>[youtube http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=R1QvHdfx1ec]<\/p>\n<p>The concept of love is intangible, and I have listened to many people struggle to define it. \u00a0In my graduate work, I have helped lead a course on mate selection and dating, and I have realized that people of all ages and with a variety of backgrounds define it differently. \u00a0My personal definition of love has even changed as I journey through each stage of my life. I think it is important to determine what it means &#8211; and what you want it to mean &#8211; to you. Maybe this video will help you begin.<\/p>\n<p>So what do you think? \u00a0Do we give because we love?
